Fontanella: The Woods So Wild
1-2pmOld St Martin’s Church, Cornmarket, Worcester WR1 2PN
The sweet song of the recorder has been used to imitate the sounds of birds and woodlands for hundreds of years, inspiring generations of musicians and composers. In this beautiful programme Fontanella is inspired by the sights, senses and sounds of nature, presenting a feast of music featuring the lark, nightingale and all the pleasures of the ancient “oken wood”. William Byrd’s famous setting Henry VIII ’s favourite song forms a backdrop to music from the thirteenth to the twenty first centuries, including music by Monteverdi, Purcell and Byrd, as well as some jazz arrangements and new sounds, featuring a large array of recorders of all shapes and sizes!
